Yannis was born in Athens, Greece where he studied with †Yiorgos Theocharopoulos (music theory & keyboards), Yiorgos Fakanas (electric bass) and Yiorgos Georgiadis (jazz upright bass & ensembles). He has a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Crete, Greece, a MSc in Information Systems Engineering from the University of Reading, UK and is a graduate of the LAB Music Education Jazz Professional 3-year program. Yannis has since performed with the National Theatre in Athens, Greece and to this day continues to collaborate with an increasing number of professional jazz musicians.
